Why Us
Our Story
Keeping you in the loop
We are a locally owned and operated electrical contracting business servicing Port Douglas and the surrounding Douglas Shire since 2004. We pride ourselves in providing exceptional customer service and invaluable advice to our loyal customer base. From humble beginnings working out of a Nissan Patrol, to operating out of a purpose built commercial shed in Craiglie Business Park. Along the way we developed a team of excellent tradesmen and apprentices. With admin support to back them up our team reaches you in a timely manner with well equipped vehicles to get the job done safely and efficiently.
Meet the Founders
Sy & Amber Dolphin
Dolphin Electrical is a proudly locally owned and operated business based in Port Douglas, servicing residential, commercial, and resort clients throughout the region. We’ve built our reputation on quality workmanship, honest communication, and the belief that every job—no matter how big or small—deserves the same level of care and attention to detail.
Sy Dolphin | Director & Principal Electrician Sy relocated from Sydney to Port Douglas in 2001 and established Dolphin Electrical in 2004. With over 20 years of FNQ electrical experience, he has earned a well-deserved reputation as the professional you call when you want a quality, safe job done on time. When he isn’t leading his team or meeting with clients, Sy enjoys boating, camping and fishing with a healthy dose of Golf on the side.
Amber Dolphin | Business & Operations Manager Amber moved to the region in 2003, bringing her professional background in high-level event coordination—including work for the Sydney 2000 Olympics—to the family business. She manages the complex “schedule tetris” and administrative operations that keep our team running efficiently. Amber can often be found on Four Mile Beach or at Forbes Fitness in the early hours of the morning.
Meet our Team
The Faces Behind the Expertise

Suede
Suede is a fully qualified electrician who was born in Mossman and after a short time in South East QLD, then made the move back with his young family. He joined our team in Feb 2025 and with many years in the game brings a wealth of experience to our team. He fits in well with the Dolphin Electrical way of doing things and has extensive knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety practices. Outside of work there is never a dull moment as he is kept busy with family, his wife Angie and 3 kids. When he has the time, he likes to go fishing and camping with his family.

Conor
Conor joined the Dolphin Team as a mature age apprentice in June 2024. The Port Douglas community brought him to our attention as we had over a dozen people contact us to tell us he was looking for the opportunity of a career change. After immigrating from the UK with his partner Kerry in 2016 Conor spent years in the hospitality industry, most notably at the locals favourite Salsa Bar & Grill. Together they have bought a property in Port Douglas, putting down roots and settling in. Kerry works in Admin at Douglas Shire Council and they love to take advantage of all the area has to offer camping in their roof top tent with their fur baby Murphy.

Josh
Josh is a fully qualified electrician who relocated from interstate to become a member of the Dolphin Team. He dropped into the office while on Holidays in Jan 2025 then moved here with his partner in May 2025. Together they bought a property in Port Douglas and travelled up with their puppy from Tasmania. Electrical work in FNQ is a bit different to Tassie so it’s great for us to be able to bring a new perspective into the team and share tips and tricks in our weekly team meetings. Josh and his partner Courtney, who is a qualified teacher, have both settled into life in Port Douglas. Given the chance they visit Cairns to indulge in Josh’s passion for Ten Pin Bowling.

Mia
Mia is the first female apprentice Dolphin Electrical has had the opportunity to train. She has developed into an exceptional Tradie fully qualifying in 2025. We first met Mia when she did work experience with us while at Mossman High School and we were very impressed by her interest in the trade and willingness to learn. When she kept stopping by the office afterwards, we knew she was keen and thought we would be crazy not to give her the opportunity. We love to be able to give locals the chance to chase their dream job and Mia is fun to have around. When she’s not at work, she plays AFL with the Crocs and hangs out with her very large family. (She is one of 9 kids)

Tayhla
Tayhla first came on board with us as a casual Admin Assistant in May 2024 to help us out of a bind and she fit in so well we offered her the position on a permanent basis. She has learned the ropes and developed into a sensational support for our admin team. She will likely be the first person you speak to when you call us and does an awesome job of keeping both our clients and our staff in the loop. Tayhla grew up in Port Douglas and when she’s not fitting pieces into our giant schedule puzzle she likes to hang out with her partner River, her crazy puppy Otis or her friends. Unless she has snuck off to a quiet corner with a great book.

Ross
Ross came on board with Dolphin Electrical team in Sept 2025 as a fully qualified electrician after having bought and renovated his own property in Port Douglas. Aside from renovation work Ross has experience in a wide variety of electrical jobs from stadium lighting and traffic signals to switchboard upgrades and fault finding. He has travelled the world, worked in all kinds of places and chose to settle in our little town. His partner Annie works for Douglas Shire Council overseeing the plant nursery. Together they love to explore the Great Barrier Reef on their boat, spear fishing to fill the freezer with reef fish.

Kobe
Kobe joined our team in Jan 2026 as a first-year apprentice after having done work experience with us while at St Stephen’s College in Mareeba. After completing his Cert 2 in Electrotechnology while still at school he was keen to undertake an apprenticeship to become fully qualified. Local to Port Douglas since age 3 we have known him since he was knee high to a grasshopper and know he comes from a great hard-working family. You may have come across him working at Rattle n Hum or out on the footie field playing AFL for the Crocs. What he lacks in age and life experience he more than makes up for in smarts. We are confident he will develop into an excellent Tradie.
